Private Music Lessons - Frequently Asked Questions

Q:     What ages can take private music lessons?
A:     Children, teens and adults are all welcome to enroll in private music lessons.  We generally do not take students younger than 2nd or 3rd grade.  Certain instruments may require the student be older.  If you're not sure, please call us at 508-613-1481.  We will contact the instructor to see what minimum age they feel is appropriate for the instrument they teach.

Q:     Where are the lessons held?  How do I get into the building?
A:     Lessons are held at the Franklin High School.  Students come every week to check in before their lesson at the Lifelong Music Academy office, Room 137.  Use the Panther Entrance (near the gym).  Press the doorbell on the wall to the left of the doors and we will buzz you in. Enter and turn right.  The office is the first door on the right after the elevators and staircase.  Once checked in, students will go to the specific room used by each instructor for lessons.

Q:     Can parents/guardians wait inside or can they leave and come back?
A:     Elementary school-age students (5th grade or below) must be signed in by a parent or guardian.  The parent/guardian may go to class with the student, wait in the Lifelong Music Academy Office, or leave and come back.  Students in 6th grade or above, or adults, may sign in themselves.

Q:     What do I do if I have to miss a lesson?
A:     See IMPORTANT POLICIES for complete information about absences. The office must be notified via email by 10 AM on the lesson day for any absence. Email: MusicAcademy@franklinps.net. No makeup lesson will be given for a lesson missed without proper email notification.

Q:     What is the payment policy?
A:     See IMPORTANT POLICIES for complete payment information. Lessons will not be provided until payment is received.

Q:     What if my teacher misses a lesson?
A:
All teacher absences are either made up or, in very rare cases of multiple absences, a deduction in tuition or a refund may be given.

Q:     Are there lessons on school holidays?

A:     No.  There are no lessons on days when the Franklin Public Schools are closed.  See LESSON CALENDAR.

Q:     Are there lessons on professional development days?
A:     Yes, there are lessons on professional development days.  See LESSON CALENDAR.

Q:     What happens when it snows, or other weather situations occur?

A:     If Franklin Public Schools are closed for weather reasons, Private Lessons are also cancelled.  If Franklin Public Schools afternoon/evening activities are cancelled for weather reasons, Private Lessons are also cancelled.  Lifelong Music Academy will send an email and/or text message in either case.
