NOTE:
This document will be updated any time there are changes from the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE), the Massachusetts Department of Public Health (DPH), and/or Franklin Public Schools (FPS).

FRANKLIN PUBLIC SCHOOLS’ CURRENT MASK GUIDELINES:
On August 25, 2021, Commissioner Jeffrey Riley issued a statewide universal masking requirement in Massachusetts public schools due to “exigent circumstances.” Therefore, all students, staff, and visitors are currently required to wear masks indoors in Franklin Public Schools.

ADDITIONAL GUIDELINES WE WILL FOLLOW FOR OUR 2021-2022 PRIVATE MUSIC LESSON PROGRAM:

THOSE PLAYING WIND AND BRASS INSTRUMENTS:

  • Students playing wind and brass instruments will be required to use instrument masks. Instrument masks are regular masks with a slit or hole cut for the mouthpiece. They may be bought or made.  Students must bring their own instrument masks to every lesson.
  • Students playing wind and brass instruments will be required to use bell covers. They may be bought or made.  Students must bring their own bell covers to every lesson.
  • Students playing brass instruments must empty spit valves onto an absorbent pad, either disposable or washable. Students must bring their own spit pads every week.
  • Teachers and students will maintain 6 feet of spacing.

THOSE TAKING VOICE LESSONS:

  •  Voice students will be required to wear masks. These masks should be tight and well-fitting.  Students must bring their own masks to every lesson.
  • Families might consider purchasing a choral mask that may be more comfortable and stay in place better while singing.
  • Teachers and students will maintain 6 feet of spacing.

THOSE PLAYING STRING INSTRUMENTS:

  • String students must wear masks.
  • Teachers and students will maintain 3 feet of spacing.
