What class should I register my child for?
Beginner I Classes are for students with no prior playing experience. Beginner II Classes are for students with one year of playing experience. Intermediate Strings class is for students with two years of playing experience. Preparatory Orchestra is for students with 2 or more years of experience who are enrolled in a string ensemble during the school day. Repertory Orchestra is an advanced orchestra requiring an audition for acceptance. If you are unsure, you may call us. We usually recommend you enroll your child in the lower of the two classes you are considering. Instructors will often move a student up in the first few weeks if they are eligible. It is uncomfortable for a student if they are enrolled in a class for which they are not ready and need to be moved down a level.
Can my middle or high school child participate if they are not part of a music ensemble during the school day?
No. Because of the advanced music being taught in the Preparatory and Repertory Orchestras, we require those students to be enrolled in a string ensemble during the school day. This ensures the student is learning the proper skills and they will be successful in this more advanced setting.
When are the concerts?
Concerts for Monday and Thursday students are held together on Monday evenings twice per year. Winter Concert: Monday, January 27, 2020, 6:00 pm, Horace Mann Middle School. Spring Concert: Monday, May 11, 2020, 6:00 pm, Horace Mann Middle School.
